Celebrating the Bedford Cultural District ~ A Curated List of Saturday’s Activities

Bedford’s Cultural District Partnership has arranged a panoply of community activities throughout the District for Saturday’s celebration. Visitors can expect music and art; neighbors and friends; history and diversity, and most of all, FUN.

The day will begin with a ribbon-cutting ceremony in front of the library at 10 am, then move to Bedford Common and the Cultural District itself, before winding down at 2 pm.

 

Ceremonies

  • 10:00 am ~ Bedford Public Library
  • 2:00 pm ~ Depot Park

Musical Performances

First Parish, in the Sanctuary ~ Please use the accessible Elm Street entrance

  • 10 am ~ Crescendo Suzuki Violin Studio performance of “Spring” and “Summer” from Antonio Vivaldi’s “The Four Seasons,”  accompanied by a slideshow of students’ artwork that illustrates the poetry associated with the music

Depot Park, in front of the Freight House

  • 11:30 am ~ Crescendo Suzuki Violin Studio, Suzuki violin repertoire, pieces by Charlotte Louise Woodbridge, Kenneth Kafui, Korean folk tune

Bedford Common, on the lawn in front of First Parish 

  • 11 am ~ Elise Harfield and her band
  • 12 pm ~ Neil Dale, singer and acoustic guitar
  • 1 pm ~ Dean Groves, singer-songwriter

Activities ~ 10 am to 2 pm

Narrow Gauge Rail Trail

  • Chalk Art Along the Trail with Artist Caryn Johnson ~ Interactive chalk art drawing,  free your inner artist!
  • Kindness Rocks ~ Write a word or message to help spread kindness

 Bedford Public Library

  • Children’s Room ~ Make a Bookmark

Groups on Bedford Common ~ 10 am to 2 pm

  • Bedford Arts and Crafts Society (BACS) ~ Gel press printing demonstration
  • Bedford Center for the Arts Photo Group ~ Answer your photography questions
  • Bedford Cultural Council ~ Answer questions about the grant cycle, take the Community Input Survey
  • Bedford Cultural District ~ Get and redeem your Scavenger Hunt cards here!!
  • Bedford Embraces Diversity ~ Write or draw what you like about Bedford and how our town could be more welcoming
  • Bedford Garden Club ~ Answer your plant and planting questions
  • Patrons of Music Students (POMS) ~ Answer questions about our lesson programs, financial aid for lessons and/or instrument rental
  • The Bedford Citizen ~ Meet the editors, writers, and board members

  • Glass Cooperative ~ Stained Glass Studio artisans, second floor, Unit 3
  • Scott’s Stone Carving ~ Stone sculptor and artist Scott Cahaly, second floor, Unit 4

Depot Park, 120 South Road

  • Budd Rail Diesel Car (RDC) 6211 ~ Historic photos and artifacts

Old Town Hall, 16 South Road ~ Please use the accessible entrance at the back of the building

  • Bedford Historical Society ~ Bedford historical exhibits, the Corey Archives, research area, Find your house on an 1875 map of Bedford ~ On the ground floor
  • Bedford TV – Studio tours, introduction to all the studio, field, audio, and video equipment ~ On the second floor

Town Center, 12 Mudge Way

  • Bedford Arts and Crafts Society (BACS) ~ Flint Room Gallery ~ On the second floor
  • Council on Aging – Wood creation art show ~ On the ground floor

First Parish, 75 The Great Road ~ Please use the accessible Elm Street entrance to reach the gallery

  • The Gallery@First Parish ~ Meet the artist: Impressionist painter Brogan Joe Murphy will showcase his work in the gallery

Bedford Free Public Library, 7 Mudge Way

  • Atrium Art Gallery ~ Grounded featuring works by Tracy Spadafora, Carol Krauss, and Sarah Springer
  • Community Art Wall ~ Opposite the Children’s Room with works by students or emerging artists
  • Bedford Flag ~ Stop at the Circulation Desk for information on viewing the Bedford Flag
