Friends and family members Saturday honored Al “Dash” Dougherty, retired 40-year Bedford High School track coach, by dedicating a park bench at the Sabourin Field complex. Speakers included his youngest son Kenny and Keith Mangan, director of athletics.

Four of Dougherty’s six children attended, and the other two were on Zoom. Also on hand were grandchildren, retired Coach and Athletic Director Bob Petrillo, and track and field alumni Lennox Chase, Christine Geilfuss, and Nadav Kupiec.

A plaque is attached to the bench, inscribed with advice from Coach Dougherty: “Regardless of ability, coach each athlete with equity and maximize their individual potential.”
