Bedford Babe Ruth Baseball & Softball hit it out of the park with a Home Run Derby Fundraiser last weekend with events at Page Field on Friday night, Player Appreciation Day at JGMS on Saturday, and All-Star Games throughout the weekend.

Page Field under the lights was the hottest spot in town last Friday night. Abuzz with grade-grouped home run hitters (including parents!), Bedford swag, raffle prizes ranging from “Dine around Bedford” gift basket, Red Sox Tickets, a Lottery Ticket Tree, Yeti cooler, and much, much more.  The scent of fresh popcorn ran up Loomis St, while the new pitching machine (bought thanks to last year’s fundraising!) thew pitch after pitch.  Trophies and gift cards were presented to the highest home run hitter in each age group.

Saturday morning felt like a carnival at JGMS I-Field!  Don’t let the bouncy house, food & ice cream trucks fool you though. Board President Will Houde kicked off the first game with an inspiring speech to kids and parents. While a DJ played awesome ‘walk-up songs, Coach Chase announced each All-Star batter as they took the field, making them feel like they were in the big leagues.  Meanwhile, the little leaguers had skills competition stations with radar speed pitch, ‘home runs for pizza,’ and race to home plate.  The Babe Ruth program showed appreciation to each player with a special gift—a food and ice cream voucher to use at Red Heat, and Mr. Gourmet who served baseball eats as if we were at Fenway!

Later that night, the American League was back at Page Field, and so was the popcorn machine!  Adding to the All-Star feel, sluggers were introduced to songs like Mambo # 5, Kung Foo Fighting, and Baby Shark.  The Tigers/A’s came up victorious in a close game against the Rays/Angels.

BBRBS would like to give a special shout-out to our incredibly engaged and devoted parent group, coaches, and board members who made the weekend a total home run. Special thanks also go out to Mother Nature (who held off the rain), the Bedford Health Dept, and our awesome sponsors and donors who made the weekend such a blast.
