June 17 is the last day at the Bedford Free Public Library for Bethany Templeton Klem, who has held the position of Head of Children’s Services for nearly nine years.
Klem has accepted the Director’s position at the Dover (MA) Town Library. Klem is known affectionately as “Ms. Bethany” to the hundreds of children, their parents, and caregivers who have participated in the many programs she has organized during her time in Bedford.
BFPL Director Richard Callaghan commented that this year’s Summer Reading Program, organized by Klem each year, is in excellent shape, and will be managed by Children’s Librarian Elaine Garnache.
The search for a children’s Librarian is already underway and Callaghan hopes to have the position filled by the end of August.
He praised Klem for her years of providing innovative, well-structured children’s programming and wished her well in her new job. “Bethany’s an excellent Children’s Librarian, one of the best I’ve ever worked with,” Callaghan said. “It’s bittersweet but the Dover position is a great career advancement for her.”
Klem is also the incoming president of the New England Library Association.
