James Allen “Jim” Foltz, 35, passed away peacefully on Thursday, July 7, 2022, at his home in Columbia, MO, following a prolonged illness. Click this link to read his full obituary.

Jim was a 2005 graduate of Bedford High School where he played football and was the inaugural recipient of the Lance Corporal Travis Desiato award, given to a graduating football player for exemplary character, academics, and commitment.  While playing for Bedford, Jim learned that one’s effort and attitude are often the only things over which one has control, characteristics that provided him much strength during his illness. He graduated from Fitchburg State College in Fitchburg, MA, with a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration in 2009.  He was a four-year starter at left tackle for Fitchburg’s varsity football team, where he was named first-team all-conference and served as team captain his senior year.

A permanent named scholarship is being established in Jim’s memory at Fitchburg State University.  The scholarship will be awarded annually to help a full-time undergraduate student in good academic standing with demonstrated financial need.  Jim’s name will be connected to Fitchburg State in perpetuity. The money donated to set up the scholarship is being matched by the Commonwealth of Massachusetts with $1.00 for every $2.00 contributed.  The scholarship’s interest earnings will provide meaningful assistance to a student with unmet financial needs to help offset the cost of their education.

To contribute to this scholarship fund, you may send a check made payable to Fitchburg State University Foundation and indicate that the donation is in memory of Jim Foltz.  Or go to the website: https://support.fitchburgstate.edu/makeagift, click “other” to make a donation, add Jim Foltz Scholarship, then the gift will be added to the fund and will be eligible for the state match.
