BHS Cross-Country Teams Overwhelm Waltham

The Bedford High School cross-country trams registered a couple of convincing wins over Waltham High on Wednesday.

Coach Joel Hebert’s girls’ team garnered a shutout, with a perfect score of 15-50.  Indeed, the first 11 finishers were Bedford High athletes.

Taking care of the scoring in first through fifth place were Samantha Sheahan, Farrah Scott, Addi Poulter, Coco Steele, and Anna Massaro. They were followed by Lulu Steele, Elena Prostasowicki, Michelle Wong, Allison Miller, Madeleine Ota, and Eliza Dickert before the first Waltham runner crossed the finish line.

The boys’ team, coached by Richard Donnelly, was victorious, 21-38. Jonny Garraway, Carter  Rauch, and Aidan McCarthy took the first three places to seal the win. The other Bedford scorers were Peter Benson in seventh place, followed by Henry Reynolds in eighth. Josh Garraway and Oren Brosgol were the next two finishers, as Bedford runners captured seven of the first 10 places.

The boys’ and girls’ teams also took part in the recent Massachusetts State Track Coaches Association relays in Attleboro.

Three of the six Bedford entries were medalists. The team of Massaro, Grace Niu, and Poulter placed fifth in the race for girls in grades 9 and 10. The team of Coco Steele, Sheahan, and Lulu Steele placed sixth in the 11th and 12th grade girls’ race.

The team of Garraway, McCarthy, and Rauch placed eighth in the boys’ race for juniors and seniors.
