Navigating Bedford Day 2022 ~ Last-Minute Update ~ Everything You’ll Need to Know

Bedford Day—TOMORROW—is expected to dawn sunny and crisp, the best weather for celebrating the Town’s ceremonial birthday.

A townwide RoboCall on Thursday evening advised residents of basic traffic and parking concerns. Thanks to the Town of Bedford for this expanded information.

The Friends of Matty 5k Road Race

The [Friends of Matty 5k] road race begins at 8:30 a.m. at the John Glenn Middle School.

Expect runners and police officers assisting with the race on the following roadways: McMahon Road, Concord Road, Davis Road, and side roads within the Davis Road loop. The Bedford Day Parade

The Bedford Day Parade will take place between 10:30 and 11:30 am, beginning at the Great Road and Loomis Street intersection and ending on Mudge Way.

Dozens of local groups and organizations will be marching and riding in the Bedford Day Parade. The parade route travels from The Great Road and Loomis Street, north on The Great Road, and turns left onto Mudge Way.

The Great Road (from Loomis to North & Concord Roads) will be closed for the parade at 10 a.m. until approximately noon, and traffic will be detoured. Loomis Street between Webber and The Great Road will be closed at 9:30 a.m. for parade staging.

There will be an extension of the overnight parking ban on The Great Road throughout the morning until after the parade ends. During the road closure, the MBTA Route 62/76 combo will use a modified route.

The Bedford Day Fair

The Bedford Day Fair takes place between 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. on the Town Campus. No traffic or parking will be allowed on Mudge Way during the fair.

The Fair features booths with dozens of local groups, entertainment, activities, and food vendors, on the Town Campus between Town Hall and the Police Station. Public restrooms will be available in Town Center (the yellow building) and the Library.

No traffic or parking will be allowed on Mudge Way during the fair, and no parking will be allowed at any time on September 17 behind Town Center.

All dogs must be on leashes at the fair at all times, no exceptions!

Town Events at the Fair

The Planning Board has scheduled a regular meeting during the Fair so that all board members can be present and remain compliant with the Open Meeting Law. Residents are cordially invited to stop by the booth with questions about planning and zoning issues.

The Department of Public Works will be collecting paper products (paper towels, toilet paper, and tissues) in partnership with the Bedford Food Bank.

The Bedford Free Public Library are hosting the Friends of the Library Fall Book Sale at the library from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. https://www.bedfordlibrary.net/events/event/fol-fall-book-sale-5/

The Bedford Health Department will offer free COVID-19 and Flu vaccinations at Bedford Day from 9 a.m. – noon. Residents age 8 years and older can receive a flu vaccine and residents age 12 years and older can receive a COVID-19 Booster, if eligible. For both vaccinations, please bring insurance cards and walk up to the big white tent behind the Town Center Building. When entering this area, considered clinical space, please remember that masks will be required. Additionally, Emerson Hospital will be onsite to provide BMI Screenings, however no blood draws will be offered.

Fireworks

There will be a fireworks display beginning at 7:30 p.m.

The suggested viewing area is on the fields between Bedford High School and the Town Hall. Spectators are welcome to arrive starting at 6:00 p.m.

Railroad Avenue and McMahon Road will be open to neighborhood residents only only in advance of and during the fireworks display.
