Senior Gaby Zovko is on the threshold of a major career milestone as she leads the 2022 Bedford High School volleyball team.

Zovko has 995 assists, which she began amassing in 2019. She and her teammates, with a record of 3-2, are scheduled to travel to 1-4 Westford Academy Wednesday for a 5:15 p.m. match.

Zovko, who is committed to play volleyball next year at Sacred Heart University in Fairfield, CT, is the only member of this season’s team with varsity experience, said Head Coach Lisa Predaina.

“It’s really Gaby’s consistency setting the ball that has been the foundation of Bedford’s success in recent years,” said the coach. “She’s been such a rock for this program since day one of freshman year.”

Last Friday night a small but vocal section of BHS students went wild in the Concord-Carlisle stands each time a Zovko killed the ball.

The six-foot senior captain hit her stride midway through the match and provided the Bucs with some much-needed firepower to secure a five-set win over the Dual County League rival and perennial Division 1 powerhouse.

“While the Bucs roster contributed notable clutch individual highlights through the match, Zovko dominated the evening with 26 kills, 22 digs, 4 aces, 1 block, and 14 assists,” Predaina reported.
