Smash it, don’t trash it! Pumpkin Smash, Saturday November 5, 2-4 pm

October 6, 2022

~ Submitted by Bedford Mothers Out Front and Bedford’s Energy and Sustainability Committee

A new and exciting fun way to dispose of your Halloween pumpkins: bring your pumpkins to a community-wide pumpkin smash!

Let’s turn those jack o’ lanterns into compost, and have fun at the same time.

On Saturday, November 5, in 20-minute windows between 2:00 and 4:00 pm rain or shine, you can bring your unpainted and glitter-free pumpkins to the John Glenn Middle School parking lot and smash them to smithereens, getting them further ready for composting.

Get The Bedford Citizen in your inbox!

Various stations will be set up (one for younger kids) with implements to pummel your pumpkins into chunks that will help them decompose faster.

Let us know you’re coming, and reserve your smashing time

What to bring?

  • Pumpkins and jack o’ lanterns free of glitter, pipe cleaners, and non-digestible paints
  • Goggles if you have them
  • A $1.00 suggested donation to offset the services of the composting company, City Compost

This is a family-friendly, earth-friendly event with fun for all! Come one and all. Let’s have a blast!  Learn about Bedford composting options as you make friends.
