The Bedford Fire Department’s annual toy collection drive will take place in the rear parking lot of Bedford High School (the lot adjacent to Liljegren Way) from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on two Saturdays, Dec. 10 and 17.
People are invited to donate unwrapped toys for children. The majority of the toys collected are sent to the charity Toys for Local Children, an organization “designed to spread Christmas cheer to those families less fortunate” in the communities it serves. The Bedford Fire Department also makes sure that local residents in need receive toys.
The Fire Department is also collecting non-perishable food items that will be donated to the Middlesex Community College Food Bank. The MCC Food Bank is open and free for MCC students and employees with limited financial resources.
Also welcome for drop off at the drive are coats. These will be donated to the John Dodge Coat Drive to help the people in need at the St. Francis House in Boston. St. Francis House is the largest day shelter in Massachusetts, giving support to people experiencing homelessness and poverty.
