Podcast #5 in the Bedford  Explained Series: Bedford Santa Program

December 14, 2022

Christmas time is here and today we’re looking into a tradition in town that reminds us all of what a special place we live in. We’re talking about the Bedford Community Santa Program.

The Bedford Community Santa Program has been running since 1946.  It started when one of Bedford’s Selectmen noticed the children of a poor family as they watched Santa going into one of the churches for a Christmas party. Though his children were excited, their father held them back as they were not members of the church. The Selectman, Clayton Morrill, realized the children’s disappointment and resolved to do something about it.   The result was the Bedford Santa program, delivering presents to kids on Christmas eve.

It takes a lot of volunteers to make this program run, and today we’re going to talk with some of the people who make this happen.  We will also look at the history and share some stories of Christmas Eve’s past with the program.

WARNING  – We are going behind the scene so use your discretion as to who is nearby when you listen to this.

We hope you enjoy this podcast.

More information on the Bedford Community Santa Program can be found at bedfordsanta.com. The program is still looking for volunteers for December 24, 2022.
