Letter to the Editor: MLK Community Day Was a Big Success

Submitted by Bedford Embraces Diversity Board

Bedford Embraces Diversity’s community day in honor of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. on Jan. 16 was a powerful and gratifying statement of our town’s commitment to justice and equity. Government, military, educational, and business leaders made that clear with their active presence at the event

We were truly blessed to hear the inspirational message from the pastor of Roxbury’s historic Twelfth Baptist Church, the Rev. Willie Bodrick II. His theme of dreams to be fulfilled resonated, as did the beautiful vocal renditions by Tanesha Scarlett.

We hope everyone also found meaning in our community day candle-lighting ceremony, which by citing local episodes of prejudice reminded us all that there is work to do wherever we live.

The entire program can be viewed through this link: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6FkUnb2L6aU.

Bedford Embraces Diversity extends thanks to all who joined us, and who contributed items to the college food bank. We especially are grateful to Middlesex Community College, Bedford TV, the Bedford Cultural Council, the Rotary Club of Bedford and Wegman’s of Burlington for their support and generosity.
