The Bedford Town Calendar

Local artists once again have an opportunity to show their work at the Bedford Free Public Library this year. On hold since 2019, the Community Juried Art Show will take place in the library gallery from March to May. All art makers—amateur or professional—who live or work in the Bedford area are encouraged to apply. Art and craft in all media is eligible; work must be original, created in the last 5 years, and not shown before in the Library. On January 24, 2023 at 7 pm the Bedford Center for the Arts Photo Group will welcome Bobbi Lane, a Fujifilm “X” Photographer, for a virtual presentation on Flash Photography.  Bobbi is an award-winning commercial photographer specializing in creative portraits on location and in the studio. Bobbi Lane's multi-faceted approach to photography incorporates over 40 years of technical experience with innovative artistic interpretation. Her corporate and editorial work includes corporate websites, annual reports and hundreds of environmental portraits for a wide variety of magazines. History Day at BHS: At BHS, the NHD experience begins a class project in High Honors United States II history classes. Between September and January, students engage in the process of discovery and interpretation of historical topics related to the NHD theme, while honing their creative talents producing original presentations. Those projects are publicly presented at the Winter History Fair in late January. From there, some brave souls choose to continue working on their projects as an extracurricular activity with the intention of submitting those projects in the NHD competition. The Concord Orchestra presents “The Vernacular Express” at 8:00 p.m. on January 28 and 3:00 p.m. on January 29 at the Performing Arts Center at 51 Walden.  The orchestra, directed by Eric Culver, performs Bernard Hoffer’s Fanfare for Dick, George Gershwin’s An American in Paris, Bernard Hoffer’s Kurt Weill Songbook, and Charles Ives’ Symphony No. 2.  A pre-concert talk by the conductor is scheduled for 7:15 p.m. Guest conductor Eric Culver has been The Concord Orchestra’s consulting conductor during the process of finding a new music director.
