State Rep. Ken Gordon will be the guest speaker at the next meeting of L’Chaim at Temple Shalom Emeth of Burlington on Jan.29.
He will discuss “Reflections on his trip to Israel: Economic Opportunity and Cultural Diversity.”
Gordon was part of a Massachusetts legislative delegation that visited Israel in December, which was hosted by the Jewish Community Relations Council.
During the visit, Gordon began work to create a partnership between the Burlington/Bedford business community and high-tech start-up businesses in Tel Aviv. At the L’Chaim meeting, he will discuss how successful the effort has been, and his plans to return to Tel Aviv in June to meet with business leaders.
He will also discuss the emergence of cooperation among young Israeli Jews and Palestinians, and the hope for a peaceful solution for the future.
Gordon, who represents Burlington, Bedford, and Wilmington, has served in the state legislature since 2013. He is vice chair of the Joint Committee on Election Laws, and serves on the joint committees for community development & small business; transportation; and bonding, capital expenditures 7 state assets.
L’Chaim (to life) was established last summer by members of the temple for retirees to get together for social and educational conversation. Members hope the monthly meetings will help build a community-center environment, and encourage more participation in temple life.
Previous speakers have included investigative journalist Chip Berlet, and State Sen. Cindy Friedman.
The Jan. 29 meeting, which includes an Israeli-style luncheon, begins at 12:30 p.m., and is open to the public.
