Project Drawdown: Film and Panel Discussion
June 10 @ 7:00 pm - 8:30 pmFree
Mothers Out Front and the Bedford Energy and Sustainability Committee are co-sponsoring a showing of the film Drawdown: The Most Comprehensive Plan Ever
Proposed to Reverse Climate Change. This 20-minute film will be followed by a panel of experts presenting the problem of food waste. Project Drawdown was devised by distinguished researchers who modeled substantive solutions already in place. This well-received plan resulted in a compilation of 100 climate change solutions, ranked both by the amount of greenhouse gases they would cut and by their cost.
One of the more surprising conclusions reached is the focus of our panelists–food waste. It is estimated that up to 40% of food raised in the USA does not make it from farm to fork. This waste contributes 4.4 gigatons of carbon dioxide equivalent emissions into the atmosphere each year—roughly 8% of human-caused gas emissions. Reducing food waste is possible! Our panelists will address concrete ways we can do this. Panelists include DeAnne Dupont, President, and Founder of Food Link; Jim Bauer, former Chair of the Beverly Waste Reduction Committee; and Brittany Peats, MA Food System Collaborative. They will entertain questions following their individual presentations.
