Rasa Strings Quartet to Perform as Part of MCC’s “A World of Music”
March 19, 2021 @ 7:30 pmFree
Middlesex Community College will continue its online spring concert series “A World of Music” with a performance by the Rasa Strings Quartet. The concert was recorded at MCC’s Concert Hall in Bedford and will air online at 7:30 p.m. on Friday, March 19.
Since winning first prize in the Chamber Music Yellow Springs 35th Annual Competition, Rasa Strings Quartet quickly emerged as one of New England’s finest young ensembles. The quartet consists of violinists Kiyoshi Hayashi and Maura Shawn Scanlin, violist Claudia Do Minh Ramos and cellist – and MCC faculty member – Eunghee Cho.
According to Cho, creating and performing art is the closest way to experience passion, beauty and miracle – something that has been missing throughout the pandemic.
“At this time, that medium is the virtual experience that mimics to the closest possible degree the in-person experience in all but geography,” he said. “One of the beautiful elements of the virtual medium is that geography is no longer a limiting factor in the experience of art. People can succumb to the miracle of newly created music from the comfort of their homes and from across the world.”
Using the string quartet as a vehicle for storytelling, the program will span over 200 years with string sounds that range from classical, imitations of rock, mariachi, Balkan gypsy bands and a vignette of an orange. Dedicated to creating meaningful connections with their audiences by performing repertoire from the classical, world and folk genres at the highest level of artistry, the ensemble will perform works by Aleksandra Vrebalov, Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart and Jessie Montgomery.
More online performances – recorded at locations in both Bedford and Lowell – will take place throughout the semester. The Lowell Chamber Orchestra: Miniature Universes will air at 7:30 p.m. on Saturday, April 3; an MCC Student Recital will air at 7:30 p.m. on Friday, May 7; and the Lowell Chamber Orchestra: On the Double will air at 7:30 p.m. on Saturday, May 15.
