The Fight to Vote: “Suppressed”-Film and Discussion

February 2, 2020 @ 12:00 pm - 1:30 pm

Free

It is no secret that there has been a concerted effort in many states to purge voter rolls and to make it harder for voters to cast ballots. People of color and young people have been dramatically impacted by the various voter ID laws that claim to be fighting voter fraud. Except that voter fraud doesn’t really exist in any significant way and the ID laws are clearly aimed at suppressing certain people’s votes.

Nowhere did that play out more shockingly in recent years than the 2018 election in Georgia where Stacey Abrams was poised to become that state’s first female African American governor. SUPPRESSION: The Fight to Vote explores the facets of voter suppression in Georgia and demands action to restore voting rights.

This 38 minute documentary will be followed by a discussion and a presentation of opportunities on how you can help  GET THE VOTE OUT in 2020.

A light lunch will be served.

Hosted by the First Parish Peace & Justice Committee
