Elise and Monique Lyons ~ Bedford Sisters are Austin Prep Hockey Stars

New England is at the forefront of developing woman hockey players, and two of the best are right here in Bedford.

Elise Lyons, grade 11, and her sister Monique, grade 8, daughters of Pat Lyons and Therese Franks, played wing on the first line of the co-state champion Cougars of Austin Preparatory School in Reading.  The team was two days away from a showdown at TD Garden with Woburn for the MIAA title when the Covid-19 threat took over, truncating the tournament.

Bedford Firefighters Present: Bedford Thanksgiving Classic 2019

Bedford Firefighter Nick Anderson is hosting an exhibition hockey game between the Town of Bedford, MA employees and Alumni vs The Bedford High School varsity hockey program. This game is scheduled for Friday Nov. 29th at 12:40pm at The Edge Sports Center and has come to be known as the “Bedford Thanksgiving Classic.” Proceeds from a 50/50 raffle will be going to benefit the hockey program whereas admission fees and an additional set of raffles will be to benefit the Asperger’s/Autism Network, www.aane.org . They are a local 501 (c)(3) nonprofit based in Watertown, MA with an excellent record for how they use money donated.  Autism is near and dear to me as my oldest childhood friend has 2 wonderful children and they are both on the spectrum.

Lily Nemirovsky ~ MIAA 5k Division 2 Final in Gardner

Bedford finished the XC regular season with a record of 2-4 in a competitive Dual County League (containing All State Champions Concord Carlisle). Against schools their own size, girls’ cross country ended their season with a high note at Eastern Regionals in Wrentham.

Editor’s Note: The original post by The Bedford Citizen has been replaced by this article written by Lily’s teammates on the 2019 Girls Cross Country team. Thank you, Ladies!

BHS Golf has a Rough Start to the Season

Before the season had started BHS Golf Coach, Jim Nagle, told me that he thought they had a very deep and competitive team this year.  Nothing like starting the school year off and having a tri-meet on the first day of classes.
